Bath Business Association 5th AnnualCommunity Garage Sale

The Bath Business Association (BBA), in cooperation with Bath Township, is once again sponsoring the annual Bath Community Garage Sale, this year on Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. BBA members organize the community-wide event, providing promotion, advertising, registration and signs for participating residents, neighborhoods, businesses, governmental bodies, and non-profit organizations.

"The Bath Community Garage Sale has become a fun tradition here in Bath,” said BBA member and garage sale committee member Nancy Fay. “I know lots of neighbors and friends who set aside their unneeded or unused 'treasures’ all year long and then use the garage sale day as a way to unclutter.”

Cost to participate in the Bath Community Garage Sale is $10, and participation is limited to those in Bath Township. A registration form for the garage sale will be in the May issue of the Bath Country Journal. Registration forms will also be available at The Bake Shop in Ghent, 800 Wye Road, and the office at Crown Point Ecology Center, 3220 Ira Road, after May 2. The deadline to register is May 29, and registration forms and payment must be postmarked by that date for inclusion. There will be no participation without pre-payment.

A map of participants’ locations and a limited list of items to be offered for sale at each site will be published in the June 9 West Side Leader and will be available the day of the sale at The Bake Shop in Ghent. Information about the sale will be included in the June Bath Country Journal and Akron Beacon Journal garage sale listings. Colorful and distinctive signs for each participating garage sale location can be picked up by participants at The Bake Shop beginning June 7 through the garage sale day.

Proceeds from the Bath Community Garage Sale provide funding to the BBA Scholarship Program for an annual scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Bath who is planning to further their education by pursuing studies in business.  Scholarship applications are provided to area high school guidance counselors and home-schooled students, and are available on the BBA website. The amount of the scholarship awarded annually depends on the success of the garage sale.

"The Bath Community Garage Sale is a chance for area garage sale enthusiasts to see some of Bath while taking advantage of so many sale opportunities close to each other,” said BBA President Ellen Otto. “Most important of all, proceeds from the garage sale raise the funds that support BBA's annual business scholarship.”

In past years, various community groups organize events around the garage sale day.  Also, Goodwill Industries has worked with garage sale organizers to collect unsold items at a central location at the conclusion of the sale.
